2.How does your media product represent particular social groups

People usually can be categorized in certain social groups or what kind of person they are, psychographically, demographically and subcultures(UK Tribes).
The social group i would be representing with my magazine is, in a sense of a subculture is rock fans, metal heads, people who enjoy anything without generic beat and with a lot of guitars, people who wear band t-shirts and baggy jeans. Its for people who enjoy good real music, rock music. people like this are usually categorized psychographically into people who enjoy a heavy lifestyle of concerts, alcohol, parties and who usually believe in freedom of speech, who don't agree with the government, and due to their taste in music, sometimes feel they should "fight the system"
Demographically people who enjoy this kind of magazine would be seen as male usually, between their teens and late 20's, people with a lot of disposable income, to buy things such as CD's, gig tickets, musical instruments, band merchandise. People these people can be categorized demographically in A, B, C, C1, C2 and D
the people my magazine is intended for is between c2 and D people who are low income jobs or students or unemployed people, anyone higher, would like be older and in a much more demanding job and lifestyle to be able to enjoy the magazine.

Here i have taken a photo from my contents page and a photo of Lady Gaga from a similar magazine Q. I felt this was a similar photo because of the composition, the camera shot the theme of the photo, both are using sex and being cute to sell ideas and their music. They both show flesh and are in a similar stance and looking at the camera, again to sell them selves.

As we know magazines try to Subvert stereotypes. My magazine for instance would be more favored to people who enjoy rock music rather than rap or R n B music and would be more likely to talk negatively about them. This helps my magazine or any magazine find and support their target audience and securing a target audience.

My magazine personally has a less consumerist approach then say a pop or fashion magazine, most of the advertisements would be for music gigs, television shows and musical instruments, but also a variety of clothing websites and shops and merchandise advertisements, so in a way it is pro consumerist but not as much.

  1. I don't think that most magazines do try to subvert stereotypes! I think most magazines reproduce stereotypes. Here you have certainly reproduced and stereotype of gender by infantilising the female in your photo and essentially creating her as a dumb blonde stereotype. I think you should explore this representation of gender a bit further.
